It honestly surprises me how little some people know about classic Japanese sports cars. Sure, most people in this community will be able to tell the difference between an AE86 Levin and Trueno, but I really don’t class them as classic cars…yet, anyway.
With everyone in an R35 GT-R-induced fever right now, I thought I’d show you guys exactly where the modern monster came from.

To me there’s almost nothing as beautiful as the KPGC110 Skyline, the great-great-grandfather of the new R35. Though not pumping out the 480-odd PS that the new GT-R has available under the bonnet, there’s no denying that these little beasts still have much more character than their distant offspring could ever hope to have.
It’s funny when you look at a second-series Skyline how much they actually have in common with the later ones. For example, the ’72’s angular headlight brackets are a very close resemblance to the headlights the R34 sported some twenty-five years later.
The example here is American-owned, but is simply and elegantly done with very few body modifications. This is my definite idea of an old-school JDM racer, in its purest form.
I want one.

Damn right, I hear ya brother!
Absolutely. We’re so enamored with it at grandJDM, that Kev recently forked out to have a KPGC10 replica shipped over from Japan. It’s a good thing the guy’s loaded!
